The US Navy vessel, the USS Rushmore, has docked at Abu Dhabi’s newly-inaugurated Khalifa Port.
Hailing the ship’s arrival yesterday, Ambassador of the United States to the UAE, Michael Corbin, hailed the move marked an historic moment.
“[This is] another symbol of the strong strategic and bilateral relationship that the United States shares with the United Arab Emirates,” he said.
The USS Rushmore was first deployed in 1992, during Operation Restore Hope in Somalia – the largest military humanitarian operation in history.
During yesterday’s visit, American officials hailed the value of Khalifa Port’s deep-water access as well as its state-of-the-art facilities.
