Alexander Matthey, Vice President, Program Management Office, ADPC, has showcased ADPC’s megaproject at the Seventh Project Management Congress in Athens.
Mr Matthey delivered a headline speech to delegates about “Lessons Learned” in the construction, testing and commissioning and business readiness preparation of Khalifa Port and Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad), destined to grow into one of the largest industrial zones in the world and whose first phase, delivered over five years, cost AED 26.5 billion (USD 7.2 billion).
He pointed to two vital components which need to be put into place and strictly adhered to on a megaproject of such monumental scale: a clear Project Management plan, and active and constant engagement with stakeholders. The Lessons were grouped into 10 major “Gold Practices”.
Mr Matthey praised ADPC and its stakeholders for their “highest professionalism” in bringing the project in ahead of schedule and under budget.
Khalifa Port was formally inaugurated in December, 2012.
