The vessel is a self-propelled DP2 Derrick lay ship, 203.5m in length and 49.84m in breadth and is designed to lay pipes in shallow and deep water.
It was on its maiden voyage and had travelled direct from China. ADPC pilot Karrimattam Mathews (Mitty) guided the vessel safely in and it berthed alongside Musaffah port at 12:00 on 25/9/2013 for Coastguard and Customs clearance.
The ship is a specialist vessel equipped with a fully revolving derrick crane and several pipe handling cranes. It has a range of specialist winches, propellers and thrusters suitable for its role and 349 air conditioned rooms offering a range of crew accommodation, it even has a helideck for helicopters to use.
Built in China and launched earlier this year, the ship is owned by Abu Dhabi’s National Petroleum Construction Company and is flagged under the UAE flag.
