ADPC’s IBTIKAR goes international

ADPC PRESENTS SUCCESSFUL INNOVATION PROGRAMME IN THE UK

Being a continuous success story ever since its implementation in 2012, IBTIKAR – Abu Dhabi Ports Company’s (ADPC) innovation and employee involvement programme – is going to be showcased at an international platform.

ADPC officials will be presenting IBTIKAR (Arabic for “innovation”) from 12 – 14 November in Cardiff, Wales, at the 28th Annual Conference of ideasUK, one of the most prominent association’s for the promotion of employee involvement programmes in the UK and beyond.

In addition to attending presentations, discussion panels and interactive workshop sessions, the ADPC delegation will be exploring other employee involvement programmes and taking part in the pre-conference training master class on 11 November. Here, the delegates will have the opportunity to share best practices and exchange knowledge and experience in managing employee ideas.

“The conference provides an excellent platform to introduce IBTIKAR to an international audience and present our employee engagement success story,” said Captain. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO, ADPC.

“Employee engagement is crucial for an organisation to be successful. It not only creates a sense of team spirit and belonging, but through programmes like IBTIKAR, creates commitment to the organization’s goals and values, motivates employees to take an active role in contributing to the organizational success and, at the same time, enhances their own sense of well-being,” Al Shamisi continued.

Ahmad Alkhayat, Senior Quality Assurance & Excellence Manager, added: “Our IBTIKAR programme invites every employee across all of ADPC’s divisions to be an idea generator and innovator, even if it covers an area that she or he is not professionally involved in. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can spot things that others might not necessarily see. We have been very successful with our initiative which is due to the fact that the ADPC senior management is strongly supporting us.”

ADPC has established a dedicated online IBTIKAR communication channel that ties in with the company’s intranet platform in order to ease the submission process. Once an employee has filled out and submitted the online form to the IBTIKAR committee, she or he receives a notification that the suggestion has been recorded.

After a series of assessments in which various teams are involved, the employee is either asked to submit more information supporting the idea, the suggestion is approved or it may be deferred for future use. If the suggestion is approved, it will be implemented and further evaluated by the relevant department.

If the implemented idea proves to be a successful undertaking for ADPC’s overall performance, operations or services, the employee’s name is entered into the IBTIKAR award scheme. Every six months, ADPC members of staff are officially recognised for making successful IBTIKAR suggestions.

“Our IBTIKAR award scheme is an important element of the programme. It is a motivational incentive that honors and rewards the participant, while demonstrating how much we value our employees and their input,” Al Shamisi concluded.
