Named winner of 2011 Port Operator and Environmental Protection Awards

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has won two awards for Port Operation and Environmental Protection at the 2011 international Lloyd’s List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards. The prestigious annual industry gala was held at the Grand Hyatt Dubai.

Competing against household names which included DP World, APM Terminals, and Topaz Energy and Marine, the awards recognised ADPC for its contributions to promoting the highest standards and practices in environmental protection and port operations.

Collecting the award, Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi, Vice President of Ports at ADPC, said:

“Being celebrated as the best in the categories of Environmental Protection and Port Operation is a great honour. Winning these awards spurs us to continue our commitment to developing sustainable projects with minimal environmental impact.”

Preserving the environment is a major concern worldwide and ADPC has also recently won the Environmental Protection award at the International Bulk Journal 2011 in recognition for its Environmental Breakwater project at Khalifa Port. The eight-kilometre, AED 880 million (US 240 million) breakwater was constructed to curl like an outstretched arm round the port, protecting the many different types of corals and marine life on the Ras Al Ghanada reef.

The Port Operator Award acknowledged ADPC for its efforts in maintaining the highest standards of operational efficiency and customer services provided throughout the year.

Lloyd’s List Awards 2011 recognise companies and people across 13 categories, that are making strides toward regional and global leadership and who are destined to achieve even more in the future. The Awards are independently judged and are designed to acknowledge excellence in the shipping industry.
