The Ports Unit is sending a team of four led by the Executive Vice President of Ports, ADPC, Tawfeeq Y. Al Mubarak. The team travels to Singapore to take part in Sea Asia, billed as Asia’s premier maritime conference and exhibition between April 12th and 14th.
The event has been specifically targeted by ADPC as Singapore is seen as a shipping business and knowledge hub, and leading international maritime centre. With more than 10,000 visitors expected, the event is jointly organised by Seatrade, the body which jointly organized the ADPC-hosted World Ports and Trade Summit which took place at ADNEC at the end of March.
Mr Al Mubarak commented: “ADPC is honoured to attend the event and host a lunch at the Sea Asia conference. It is a remarkable opportunity to meet key maritime industry players and explore in more detail with them Khalifa Port, the first phase of which is scheduled to be completed in Q4, 2012. The Asian market is key both for us and Kizad (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi), ADPC’s huge industrial zone lying adjacent to the port, which will also see the first phase of its infrastructure completed in Q4, 2012. The Port is 68% completed and on schedule to be ready on time”.
The Kizad team has signed Memoranda of Understanding with the regional government and private bodies. Khaled Salmeen, Executive Vice President of Industrial Zones, ADPC, comments from Hannover: “The trip is proving a big success with Kizad meeting a wide range of decision makers from government and private industry. We have already held many meetings at our stand in the exhibition hall and have a full schedule for the rest of the week”.
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with JadeWeserPort Logistics Zone GmbH & Co. It has been a member of the Deutsche GVZ-Gesellschaft mbH (DGG) (German Logistics Zone Association) since September 2009. A modern service centre for logistics is being developed on a freight village covering around 160 hectares. JadeWeserPort at 130 hectares in size is Germany’s largest harbour project, located in Wilhelmshaven on the North Sea and supported by the federal states of Lower Saxony and Bremen. This new container port will have a natural water depth in excess of 18 metres and container ships with a length of 430 metres and 16.5 metres draught will be able to call in at JadeWeserPort at any tide. Construction work commenced in March 2008 and the port is expected to be opened in 2012 with a partial capacity and in 2013 with full capacity.
