ADPC awards AED 1.04 billion (USD 285 m) infrastructure works contract to Al Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG)

THIS IS THE SIXTH MAJOR PACKAGE AWARDED OVER THE LAST YEAR FOR ABU DHABI’S FLAGSHIP KHALIFA PORT AND INDUSTRIAL ZONE

Abu Dhabi Ports Company is announcing the award of an AED 1.04 billion (USD 285 m) contract for Industrial Zone Infrastructure to Al Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) for its Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone (KPIZ) project.

The agreement is for the construction, fit-out, testing and commissioning of the civil and structural works for Industrial Zone Area ‘A’ primary Infrastructure (Central and South), the second and the third of the three construction packages that will provide the facilities for an industrial centre catering for a wide range of heavy, medium and light industries. Construction of the works will begin immediately and is scheduled to end in July 2012.

Highlights of the contract include:
  • Construction of a 8.5 kms dual 3-lane carriageway (Al Sadr Road and Ras Ghanada Road) and a 9.5 kms dual 4/6-lane carriageway (Sheikh Khalifa Industrial Road) linking the onshore port to the Industrial Zone, with associated road services including street lighting and drainage.
  • Construction of 2 major grade separated interchanges, including 5 highway and railroad bridges that connect Al Sadr/Ras Ghanada Roads and Sheikh Khalifa Industrial Road.
  • Construction of a 9 kms modular path for the transportation of oversize cargo from the port to Industrial Zone.
  • 12 million cubic meters of earthworks.
  • Provision of site-wide utilities including 124 kms of electrical reticulation, 79 kms of telecom distribution and 91 kms of processed water, potable water and combined waste water.
  • Construction of one 33/11 KV and twenty two 11/0.4 KV substations and pumping stations.
  • Construction of 48 major services box culverts and bridges to accommodate future utility/service installations such as seawater cooling, railroad, feedstock, conveyor belts, electrical, gas, etc.
