OMANI VESSEL ON GULF TOUR TO PROMOTE “SULTAN QABOOS PRIZE FOR SAILING”
Abu Dhabi Ports – the master developer, operator and manager of ports and industrial zones in the Emirate – welcomed RNOV Shabab Oman II of the Royal Navy of Oman on Thursday, November 5th morning at the Freeport, adjacent to Zayed Port, in Abu Dhabi.
His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development; other senior UAE officials; the Omani Ambassador to the UAE; and senior officials of Abu Dhabi Ports were present at the port to extend a warm welcome to the vessel.
Saif Bin Naser Al Rahbi, Marine Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Navy of Oman, hosted the Emirati guests aboard the ship and briefed them about the vessel’s special features and its itinerary within the GCC countries.
Built in the Netherlands in 2014, Shabab Oman II has a declared mission of promoting cultural interaction, peace and harmony around the world. The ship left Al Shuwaikh Port in Kuwait on Sunday, November 1st, and visited the prominent ports in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar as part of “Cooperation Sail 2015” journey to the Gulf nations. The vessel set sail last night for Muscat, Oman.
The vessel has been touring the Gulf States to promote “Sultan Qaboos Prize for Sailing” established by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Sultan of Oman, to enhance amity and friendship among the nations participating in various international maritime races and sailing training missions. The prize supervised by the Royal Navy of Oman is a prestigious international award.
This year’s “Sultan Qaboos Prize for Sailing” will be announced during the Omani National Day celebrations.
Marine Lieutenant Colonel Al Rahbi thanked Sheikh Nahyan and other Emirati guests for their hospitality and appreciated the brotherly relations between Oman and the UAE.
