ANNUAL SUMMER HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMME TO REACH MORE THAN 2,000 ABU DHABI PORTS USERS, INCLUDING THE KHALIFA PORT INDUSTRIAL ZONE COMMUNITY
Abu Dhabi Ports launched yesterday a three-month campaign to raise awareness about – and help prevent – heat-related illnesses during the summer months. Held for the third year, the annual ‘Working safely in the heat’ programme is targeting the entire ports and Kizad industrial zone communities with advice and guidance, designed to keep people safe and healthy throughout the hot summer.
Taking place from 24 May to 17 September, the campaign is running in partnership with the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi, the UAE Ministry of Labour and Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHAD).
The programme highlights the importance of adequate hydration, balanced lifestyle and healthy diet, through educational messages and workshops to the Abu Dhabi Ports community. Giving those working outside, health and safety awareness messages to help them to identify the initial symptoms of heat-related illnesses and to act promptly.
“In light of the enormous contribution the labour force makes to the success of our business, we place their health and safety as a top priority at all times – but particularly during the warmer summer months”, said Sultan Al Jaberi, Vice President HSE, Regulations and Security at Abu Dhabi Ports.
“We hope this campaign will help raise awareness, possibly prevent any heat-related illnesses this summer, and support employee health during the holy month of Ramadan”, continued Al Jaberi.
As part of the campaign, Abu Dhabi Ports will perform random visits to its departments and contractors’ workplaces to monitor employee welfare and compliance with the ‘Working Safely in the Heat’ guidelines. A film on the subject will also be screened as part of a wider presentation to employees and port users. Additionally, Abu Dhabi Ports will distribute informative flyers together with water bottles, water reservoirs and electrolyte drinks to all staff working outside.
