Part of the agenda was a presentation from Abu Dhabi Ports’ HSE department about the award-winning eight kilometre-long Environmental Protection Breakwater.
The structure was specifically designed to help protect one of the UAE’s most valuable ecosystems, the Ras Ghanada Reef, located just north of Khalifa Port, from any port activity and ship movements.
The reef is 35 sq km away and supports a large number of coral species, seagrass meadows, as well as vibrant marine life that includes turtles, dugongs, dolphins, sea snakes, clownfish, sponges, and urchins.
The Environmental Protection Breakwater is just one aspect of a comprehensive environmental and sustainability policy that governs Abu Dhabi Ports’ operations.
Alongside the presentation, the delegates were given a tour through Khalifa Port and the Kizad Visitor Centre, where they learned about the master plan behind Abu Dhabi Ports’ flagship port and industrial zone.
The PAJ is a well-established association that comprises of 14 high profile refiners and primary distributors in Japan, including Kyokuto Petroleum Industries, Showa Shell Sekiyu KK and Fuji Oil Company – to name a few. The association deals with all matters concerning the refining and marketing of petroleum products.
