Abu Dhabi Ports launches new Women’s Committee

COINCIDING WITH EMIRATI WOMEN’S DAY TO FURTHER CEMENT WOMEN’S ROLE IN THE INDUSTRY

In commemoration of Emirati Women’s Day, Abu Dhabi Ports, the master developer, manager and operator of ports and Khalifa Industrial Zone in the Emirate, today launched its first ever Women’s Committee which aims to reinforce the unique role women play in the sector and wider local community.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi commented: “Women empowerment is high on our agenda at Abu Dhabi Ports. The launch of the Women’s Committee today comes as testament to our commitment to the government’s vision of empowering women to contribute positively to society and to providing women with the necessary development opportunities within a motivating work environment. The Women’s Committee will be tasked with championing the cause of empowering female employees and ensuring their happiness at Abu Dhabi Ports”.

“Emirati women make up 78% of the total number of our female workforce while they represent 34% of total Emiratis at the company. In a male-dominated industry, it is vital that we ensure women are motivated, empowered, and have access to the same opportunities available for men. Women bring new perspectives, approaches and insights to our operations that keep us ahead of our competition. Our wise government has continuously worked to eliminate all obstacles standing in the way of women’s advancement in all fields of work and we aim to mirror that vision to ensure every employee of both genders reaches their full potential which will then reflect positively on our business,” he added.

Dr. Noura Al Dhaheri, General Manager of Maqta Gateway and the selected President of Abu Dhabi Ports’ Women’s Committee, said: “I am privileged to have been selected as a president of the Ports Women’s Committee. With this privilege comes great responsibility and I am excited to start working with my female counterparts on finding creative ways for empowering women at work in our sector. I would like to extend my appreciation to our Mother of the Nation, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her endless support of women which inspires me and my Emiratis sisters.”

Held this year under the theme “Women and Innovation”, this Emirati Women’s Day celebrates women’s relentless pursuit to achieve significant innovations that contribute to the growth of the nation. At Abu Dhabi Ports, a prime example of this is Dr. Noura Al Dhaheri, General Manager of “Maqta Gateway”, a purpose built Port Community System that offers shipping lines, shipping agents, customs agents, terminal operators and other government agencies a single point-of-access and real-time information across a wide range of services that is changing the face of the logistics industry and increasing the competiveness of the Ports.
