80 Emirati job opportunities in the ports sector

ADPC AND ADT RUN SPECIAL RECRUITMENT EVENT FOR UAE NATIONALS

As part of their ongoing commitment to empowering UAE nationals, Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) and Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) are inviting young Emirati nationals to a recruitment event taking place on Tuesday, 30 September, 9am – 6pm, at the Shangri-La Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

The event is being organized with the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council, the government employment agency for Emirati job seekers, and provides a helpful and necessary information platform for all those who are interested in pursuing a promising career in the UAE’s growing ports industry.

ADPC owns, manages and operates nine non-oil and gas ports across the Emirate, ranging from busy commercial ports in Abu Dhabi to community ports in the Western Region supporting local industry, fishing and leisure activities. ADT is the operator of the state-of-the-art flagship Khalifa Port container terminal, which despite only having been operational for two years is an international port with significant global growth plans.

The attendees will be invited to hear presentations about ADPC and ADT explaining the nature of the ports industry, the in-house training and the exciting potential career opportunities.

The job seekers are invited to discuss the opportunities in one-on-one meetings with ADPC and ADT’s industry professionals and members of the human resources department.

ADPC and ADT are looking to fill around 80 new job openings with more opportunities to be announced in the near future. The majority of the jobs being recruited for, are in port operations and include clerical as well as non-clerical positions.

The first half of 2014 saw an increase of 22% in the number of containers handled at Khalifa Port and an increase of 37% in the general cargo traffic moving through Abu Dhabi’s ports, when compared to the same period in 2013.

This business growth is expected to continue and as a result the companies needs for skilled port operatives will increase.

“As our business continues to grow, we are looking for new employees to join our team, and one of our core objectives is the development and training of UAE Nationals across a wide range of career areas, driving the national goal of empowering Emirati talent”, says Capt. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO, ADPC.

“Today, over 90% of world trade travels by ship. This figure alone confirms the importance of qualified maritime and ports personnel to help us achieve our growth ambitions and to support the diversification of the economy. The maritime industry offers a vast range of exciting career opportunities to develop a strong, dynamic and future-oriented Emirati workforce,” Al Shamisi continues.

“The ports industry is one of the most important sectors in the region and ADT is committed to provide talented Emiratis with the opportunity to experience a dynamic and stimulating work environment alongside local and international talent and across various segments to enhance their skills and knowledge.

We are proud of our UAE National employees, whose number is increasing as a result of the success of Khalifa Port Container Terminal,” added Mr. Martijn van de Linde, CEO, ADT.

ADPC is already fully committed to the Absher initiative which was introduced by the UAE Ministry of Public Affairs last year, as part of the UAE-wide campaign the company is working to create job opportunities for 300 unemployed Emirati’s over the next five years.
