As the Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) prepares to host the World Ports & Trade Summit at the Saadiyat St Regis Resort, ADPC looks back to one of its most significant milestones this year when it welcomed the arrival of the world’s largest and most expensive ocean liner to the capital.
In the early hours of January 29th, the Queen Mary 2 – the magnificent luxury flagship of the Cunard Line – made its maiden call to the Port Zayed cruise terminal, a visit that signaled the port’s increasing status as a cruise liner destination.
Disembarking passengers were treated to a distinctly Emirati welcome reception, with cultural displays, bus tours of the city and performances of traditional Emirati dancing arranged on the quayside, organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.
