Abu Dhabi Ports welcomed “Queen Mary 2”, the world famous flagship of the Cunard Line, on 31 January at Zayed Port.
The luxury cruise liner stayed a full day in Abu Dhabi, giving passengers the opportunity to visit the emirate and its many unique tourist attractions, including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace, the newly opened Yas Mall and many more.
Dedicated tourist information services, taxi and bus stands at Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal helped the tourists to plan their day, and to make sight-seeing arrangements as smooth and comfortable as possible.
“Exactly two years ago ‘Queen Mary 2’ made its maiden call at Zayed Port. The fact that Cunard Line keeps putting Abu Dhabi on its itineraries confirms the emirate’s status as the next big cruise hub in the region,
The visit of “Queen Mary 2” was part of a 14-day cruise tour through the Middle East and Asia. After staying in Abu Dhabi, “Queen Mary 2” left for Cochin (India), before heading to Colombo (Sri Lanka), Phuket (Thailand), Penang (Malaysia), Port Kelang (Indonesia) and Singapore.
With a length of 345 m (longer than three football fields), “Queen Mary 2” is one of the longest cruise ships afloat and can carry up to 2,600 passengers.
Launched in 2004, the cruise ship marked its ten year anniversary last year. One of the ship’s main characteristics is its traditional “Britishness”, with classic afternoon teas, elegant décor and dressy evening wear.
The next Cunard liner to visit Abu Dhabi is the “Queen Elizabeth” which will be calling at Zayed Port in April.
