In line with the company’s commitment to be a responsible corporate citizen, Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) organised a blood donation campaign in co-operation with Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, last week with many staff volunteering to donate.
Speaking about ADPC’s regular, annual campaign and support for donating blood, Tony Douglas, CEO, ADPC, said:
“ADPC is always keen to play a vital role in social activities that contribute to serving society and assisting with blood donations is just one. But ultimately – and in this instance – it is down to the good will and generous nature of our employees.”
The Abu Dhabi Blood Bank is the major blood resource for Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), yet it provides the majority of Abu Dhabi’s hospitals with blood donations that save the lives of thousands of patients who are in dire need of blood transfusions. Blood donations are used for a variety of vital medical services, from the victims of accident and emergency incidents, to patients suffering from anemia (Thalassemia), or to those undergoing surgery or cancer treatment.
Around a quarter of all ADPC employees gave blood over the three-day period, with the blood-bank bus calling at ADPC head office, and then the Kizad and Khalifa Port offices, in Taweelah.
An Abu Dhabi Blood Bank spokesperson said that each unit of donated blood by ADPC staff can contribute to saving the lives of up to three people who need blood, or one of its components, including: red blood cells, plasma, platelets or cryoprecipitate.
