Abu Dhabi Ports Company has joined business leaders tonight in the UAE’s 40th birthday celebrations.
The company was present at the Abu Dhabi Business Group Forum which met at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr hotel in the city. 27 business groups and some 700 guests joined to celebrate the anniversary.
Tony Douglas, ADPC CEO, presented a film about ADPC’s work, centring on the megaproject being built at Taweelah, Khalifa Port and Kizad (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi), due to become one of the world’s largest industrial zones at some 417 sq kms in size. Khalifa Port will feature the first semi-automated container terminal in a radius of 3,500 miles.
Working with Etihad Rail, ADPC aims to connect the megaproject to the country’s future rail network. This will ensure access to global markets.
Mr Douglas reminded the business community that as well as the 40th birthday of the UAE, Kizad has its own first birthday, too. It was launched a year ago in Abu Dhabi, almost to the day and is due to open in Q4, 2012.
He commented: “We join you in celebrating the founding of the UAE. And we hope that, in another forty years’ time, future generations will be able to mark the 40th birthday of both Khalifa Port and Kizad”.
