Abu Dhabi Ports takes part in Waste Free Environment Day
As part of its ongoing commitment to protect the environment, Abu Dhabi Ports participated in the Waste Free Environment (WFE) Day which took place on 25 February at Al Raha Beach.
The participants came from Abu Dhabi Ports’ Aids-to-Navigation (AtoN) and diving division and they helped clean the beach area and shore line, together with other members of the local community.
The event was part of a worldwide WFE campaign which was held from 22 – 26 February and initiated by the Gulf Petrochemicals & Chemicals Association (GPCA), a regional body that represents the downstream hydrocarbon industry in the Arabian Gulf.
The campaign aims to educate the public about responsible waste disposal and addresses challenges associated with plastic litter which is a large part of marine debris.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Abu Dhabi Ports takes campaigns like WFE very seriously. In April last year, the organisation and Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) organised the waste-collection campaign “Dive Together To Protect Our Marine Environment”.
The campaign set a new world record for the most participants in an underwater clean-up (single venue), with more than 300 divers taking part in the event collecting around nine tonnes of waste.
