Abu Dhabi Marine Services ‘Safeen’ was set up in March 2013 with an investment of AED 5 million. A subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Ports, Abu Dhabi Marine Services ‘Safeen’ is the first marine service provider in the Middle East to have been certified by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA).
Abu Dhabi Marine Services ‘Safeen’ provides a wide range of world-class marine services to vessels calling at all ports across the emirate. Zayed Port operations now focus on the growing Roll-on-Roll-off (RoRo) cargo volumes, including cars, buses, vans or trucks, as well as handling general and bulk cargo. The opening of Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal at Zayed Port and Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach firmly establishes the Emirate as a regional and international tourist hub, boosting the emerging cruise tourism sector.
Khalifa Port offers an unprecedented market access to an estimated 4.5 billion people in four time zones. Furthermore, the port’s strategic location between Dubai and Abu Dhabi offers fantastic hinterland connections via dedicated highway access and three international airport hubs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Once Etihad Rail becomes operational, Khalifa Port will be the first port in the UAE with direct rail access on the dockside, further enhancing the transportation network.
Khalifa Port features state-of-the-art equipment and a world-class infrastructure, positioning the port in line with other major maritime hubs across the globe. Additionally, these features and its location adjacent to Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), make the port a significant accelerator for Abu Dhabi’s import and export activities.
Khalifa Port handles the container traffic and general cargo. In its present development phase one, the port manages a capacity of 2.5 million TEU containers and 12 million tons of general cargo. Once all development phases are completed, Khalifa Port is expected to handle 15 million TEU containers and 35 million tons of general cargo.
Khalifa Port is Abu Dhabi Ports’ flagship deep water port and the first semi-automated container port in the GCC region. Together with its adjacent Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), forms the Emirate’s biggest infrastructure project ever undertaken.
Khalifa Port and KIZAD are the key drivers in the restructuring of the UAE economy in line with Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030. The aim is to shift the economic focus from finite natural resources (oil and gas) to diverse and sustainable industries.
